North River is an architecture firm in Stone Ridge, New York, that specializes in designing and building net zero and passive homes. We designed an identity that serves as a symbol of their detail-driven, functional, and open process.
The identity is based on a dotted grid, which helps to visualize the N and R monogram in a measured and intentional way. We also wanted to prioritize function over form, so we made sure that both letters efficiently occupied the same space, sharing angles and forms with each other.
Since North and River each have five letters, we used a monospace font for the logotype. This font allows the letters to line up perfectly, creating a grid that can expand and contract, which speaks to the flexibility and customization that North River offers to their clients. Additionally, each letter acts as a unit of measurement for the NR monogram, visually connecting the identity to architecture floor plans.
Overall, the identity speaks to the simplicity and practicality of North River's process. They control costs, don't waste materials, and complete projects on time.
